So when I found the puppy I have in my arms and after losing her for 3 weeks, I shared the reason behind my happy-sad feeling after finding her on my IG page. I’ve always been a pet person and sharing that story reminded me of some funny pet moments I had growing up.
Our Bunny story: I remember one day watching a kids show on television where the kids played with a white furry bunny. They fed it with carrots, they hugged it and carried it around. It was sooo beautiful that all we could think about was to get a bunny of our own. My brother and I told my dad about it. He didn’t pay much attention to us because he thought it was just a phase we were in. Apparently, it wasn’t when he realized how incessantly we disturbed him for a bunny.
Then he told the driver to find where we could get a bunny to buy. I remember sitting in the car one afternoon making those rounds…and finding guinea pig rearers instead of bunnies. The driver trying to convince us to take the guinea pigs because they looked like rabbits desperately to a bunch of kids who only knew what they saw on TV cracks me up so bad.🤣🤣. Having the memory of the driver’s face right now makes me laugh so hard at what he must be thinking and going through with a bunch of kids who had nothing better to think about. We never found any bunny to buy.
The next thing we saw one day was a carpenter building a structure…a very big structure at our house. When we inquired we were told it’s for the bunnies. Bunnies? It was exciting yet we were quite confused. The following day, the structure was filled with over 35 bunnies. Hahahahaha.
While we were looking for a pet, my dad saw a meat business of selling Rabbit meat. We fueled a meat business idea! We saw the rabbits but weren’t too excited about them because most of them were cream, brown, black and the white ones were barely as white. We got carrots from the kitchen and tried to feed them with it but they wouldn’t eat the carrots. “Eiiii which kind local bunnies be this”, we wondered. The man that brought them took us out with his bicycle while we followed with ours. He went to harvest some weeds in an area and said to us, you will come and get these EVERYDAY. We didn’t realize the burden we had brought onto ourselves until we got tired of the bunnies that didn’t look cute, eat carrots or do anything nice but poop and eat weeds we had to fetch for them EVERYDAY. Ghana bunnies papa bi.Chale we suffered. Kids will always be kids.😂😂😂
2. The Bird babies: Our neighbors kids brought us bird babies. We excitedly took them and exchanged them for toys. We were so willing to raise them as our own so we first tried feeding them raw rice. How dumb!🤦🏾 They couldn’t eat it, then we tried gari…they kinda managed to eat that so we stuck with it. We kept them in a cage we had laying around the compound. We left them after feeding them for a while. After a few hours, we got back to find an empty cage. We stood wondering if their mum had come for them or they’ve been able to escape without wings 🤦🏾😂. Just then, we saw our cat sitting there quietly locking it’s lips. It was then that we knew the birds were in its belly. Oh!
3. Fish story: our neighbors would come to us and tell us they got fishes-baby fishes. We would give them all our toys and take them in. We fed these fishes for so long but they never grew till we gave up on them. It’s now that I realize that the fishes they had been giving us were actually tadpoles. We were rearing frogs! 😂🤦🏾🤦🏾
When my brother and I spoke about this yesterday, we sprawled in laughter and wanted you to laugh alil too.
