I didn’t think my first time at a bar or club would be like this. I imagined doing it with a camera crew etc.😂 For many people, their first time was at 10 for the most law abiding, 16. So yes, it’s a big deal cos I’m 26😜😝. Well, a few weeks ago I went to Afrikiko for a chat over a drink but was nothing like this! Taking you through a rollercoaster experience in this story which happened yesterday…well up until today woohoo!😂 For those that follow me must have read my article where I shared the story of never being to a pub or club at this post here. Well that changed yesterday at a bar called Seralios.
Many organizations had end of year dinner but in a human rights organization, we are more concerned about channelling resources towards activism so I guess we had to find our own end of year FUN. And damn! I was elated about the idea of going to a bar especially for the first time with awesome people like Kwame a.k.a Superhuman , Alec a.k.a Kwasi Broni, beautiful Ina a.k.a CHRAJ specialist, Solomon a.k.a sugar daddy at 21.😂😂
So if I don’t take care I’d write a book out of the night so I’m just going to try my best to cut corners.😝 So we got to the bar with our own drinks from ShopRite because that’s allowed at this bar we went to. We left the office without Alec so we sat there at the bar drinking and talking while we waited. “When will you leave?” They asked. “Till Mama calls. I’m not leaving!” I yelled excitedly. Well, mum called at some point which sent my colleagues sprawling in laughter. So Ina and Kwame had a secret agenda to get me drunk but guess what? You’ll find out as we progress in the story.
Immediately I took a seat, I felt I’d meet people whom I knew or knew me. Believe it or not, that used to be one of the biggest reasons why my introverted self didn’t like going out.
Lo and behold it started when I saw friends from High school. “When did you start coming here?”they all seemed to ask. “Oh I come here all the time” I threw my hands about sarcastically. Most of them didn’t believe me, well others did apparently.😝
As we sat down and waited, I drunk my ‘spiked’ drink.😂I was getting paranoid about being drunk which got Ina laughing like crazy. Apparently, it was all in my head. “Coke gets nobody drunk”, Kwame teased🤣🤣
Then I started meeting the awesome people(fans and supporters). Believe it or not,it was the highlight of my night. Sometimes, it’s unbelievable on the level on which awesome people connect with me. And it gets even more surprising how much it means to them what I do as a blogger. Another thing is, people are always bigger than they seem on social media. So if you said hi to me and all I did was grin, probably I was saying in my head, “I thought you were tiny” 😂😂it happens to me all the time. Trust me, I remembered you!
At about 12am, the excited me was bored. I begun to ask myself, “How’s this Soo fun?” But I dare not utter those words…didn’t want to be a kill joy as we sat down and drunk, watching Solomon and Kwame dance while we waited for Kwasi Broni.
Solomon left shortly after that and I eagerly wanted to go home too at this point when the crowd was increasing and the place got warmer. “Please I need to go with you. Can’t walk home alone. It’s risky. Only 30 mins more”, Ina begged. “Ok just 30 mins more” I said, erecting three fingers in her face.
Shortly after that, the lights went out. Then people went crazy. Ina stood up like she was shot out of an electric chair while Kwame’s dancing intensified. Kwame seemed quite tipsy at this point.😂
I stood and observed as people danced. Tried to divide my attention between Ina getting me to learn dance moves and trying to figure out the seemingly popular tunes everybody sang along to which I had no clue of their existence. I was shocked because in a moment, it didn’t feel like I was in Ghana. I swear!! There were so many pretty people in the hottest clothing. People expressed themselves sexually in every way possible. I mean in EVERY way. Please use your imagination…I can’t go into details on that one. But nobody cared! And that was different…
Alec came in with his other white friends. When I saw Alec dance was when I was challenged to do my best because I thought I was a better dancer😂😂. Ina was elated! “Youre having fun.”, She shouted, her voice piercing through the loud music. Then at this point, there was no stopping me. Hw3! I danced papa!! They started playing the old songs by Batman Samini. Those ones were familiar…i could sing some lines which made Ina proud.😂😂
But what i thought was hours of dancing was really a few minutes. Then I was literally out of it. I knew at this point, I couldn’t budge a hip. I was sweating…lost my middle button and unbuttoned the first two. At this point, I wanted to cry, “Take me home pleeease”😂😂😂
Will really miss you guys! Kwame back to school, Ina back to the Netherlands, Alec to the U.S, Solomon to Sierra Leone. It was fun. Will I do it again? Hmm…only with you guys 😧. And no!, That’s not me chickening’ out….that’s just…well I give up trying to explain. Bye!
