Whatever made you click on this post was actually the idea behind the event; “Sex!..So what?!” inscribed in the T-shirt was an event that delved into answering the question, “Sex!…So what?” What more is there about sex that we need to know that we already do not. It was a Christ-ian program not a religious one. It welcomed and attracted people of different faith and beliefs to walk into an auditorium to watch this answered in Drama, music and Word…oh the Q & A sessions were to die for.
I initiated a church event dubbed “Sex!…So what?” with vibrant youth that loved the lord and saw the importance of learning more about their sexuality and how to deal with it. This gave us the platform than ever to experience open conversations and discussions about our sexuality in a safe space of CHRIST, LOVE and ACCEPTANCE. We heard things through very beautiful music pieces and drama that told us more about our sexuality and God in ways we never knew. Most importantly a direct conversation was had with older people we deemed to have had healthy sexual lives to share with us how they were able to live those lives. Pretty much different from most of the unrelatable pieces of advice a lot of adults give young people because they think of their image more important than the lives they impart. It gave many people the chance to join Christ-ianity and give their lives to Christ.
“Sex!…So what?” Title
I understand how provocative this title is for many people especially in the religious circles. Even though SEX is a word just like the BIBLE is, religious people are scared and uncomfortable with it because it is seen as… I don’t really know why. I wish they could answer that. Because most of these religious people have sex, right? Well, thinking about it makes my head hurt. Let’s just dive into the title shall we?
We chose the title mainly because that is the point of the event; SEX and everything else that answers the “So what?” question. So we felt it was appropriate for the program.
It sounded more ‘welcoming’, ‘open-minded’ and ‘attractive’ to everybody of every faith and belief system because it was a word almost every human being finds familiar. Yeah I had to add the ‘almost’…
But as you might have guessed, this program was short lived because of many issues and problems attached to religion such as mentioned in my previous post “CHURCH IS DESTROYING OUR SEX LIVES” where I delved into Church or religion’s inability to see beyond the importance of IMAGE to realize the destruction of youthful lives who have put their hope in church. Young Christians that contract HIV/AIDS or get pregnant without marriage are actually the good ones who trusted the church to teach them and guide them into finding truth and security. But the church let’s them down by thinking IMAGE more important than their LIVES.
Unfortunately, this is not just a church problem but a religious one. My heart beats when I see a huge number of youthful religious people left in the wild without a shepherd who will tell them the truth and guide them in such perverted times as these.
Complaining and doing nothing about this is, is stupidity on my part. I have started by making informative pieces for the youth and the religious but it cannot end on my blog. We have to bring “Sex!…So what?” BACK. Young people are perishing….young people are dying and it is up to the bodies they trust to stand up for them, guide and protect them.
You can also do your part by joining a non- denominational group that wants to contribute in bringing the event back. In whatever way you want to support this to come back again, send me an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Or you can just do your little part by simply clicking on a share button to reach young people, the religious, non-religious and Christ-ians. Well, if you follow me, you understand the difference between Christ-ians and Religious people. So share…love you all! Peace!
