I love women; women of all colors and cultures. Women are very unique; different depending on their culture. However, they are virtually the same across the globe. One common thing you find amongst women all over the world is how self-conscious and appearance oriented they are. Every woman wants to look beautiful and that’s basis for their confidence. Most importantly, to gain attention and admiration. There are however differences in the world’s perception of beauty.
What you are about to see may come across as stereotyping but I am generally speaking about two groups of people here. Let’s not take offense, shall we?
A white woman looks in the mirror and notices a little flab on her belly; she screams,” OMG! I have gained too much weight. I need to hit the gym and go on a diet!”. In the western world, men are not attracted to fat women. ‘Skinny’ is the ideal body type for a woman.
However, when a typical African woman is told,” You have gained a lot of weight. Your belly and your buttocks are really increasing in size.” She would smile, wobble around confidently and say,” It is God oo. We thank God and thank you for the compliment.” A lot of African men would choose ‘fat’ over ‘skinny’ any day… Skinny is rather thought of as sickly and unattractive in many places in Africa.
“I need to shave my legs. I have a date”, a white woman says.
“The most beautiful thing about a woman is her hairy legs”, an African man says. In Africa, hairily is beautiful.
Oh, despite the fact that being hairy is beautiful in Africa, there are places an African would beg to see bare.An African woman would definitely question a white lady’s ability to ‘forget’ to shave her armpits because she believes that a lady should always keep her armpits hairless.
A white lady hates the gap in her front teeth. She gets it fixed before high school to avoid a tease.
When you tell an African woman, “You have such a huge gap in your teeth.”She would act all shy and say,” Oh brother, stop flattering me.” A gap in the teeth of a woman is just awesome! Love songs are written all the time about a woman with a gap in her teeth. That is true beauty in Ghana, West Africa.
A white lady would prefer to hit the gym to gain her body shape or even opt for surgery.
African ladies prefer to wear beads on their waist to give them a good feminine figure.
A white woman wears a bikini at the beach.
“I would love a tan”, white ladies say as they bask in the sun.
African ladies would say,”Give me the umbrella. I cant stay in the sun because it is not good for my skin. I will become dark. Oh and the long sleeves too”
These differences have taught me one thing! Beauty, in reality, is not about how you look, it is about how people PERCEIVE the way you look. you may be ugly here but beautiful there. Therefore, does it make sense trying to satisfy people’s perception of beauty?. ” Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder”. Realizing how beautiful you are and being confident about it is true beauty. You are beautiful. The mirror only shows what you believe and not reality.
