Looking around me sometimes causes me to ponder, ‘What the hell is wrong with me’. Pardon my language but that is exactly how I feel sometimes. When I catch myself wanting another life but mine, I get embarrassed but lets face it. Although it is unsaid by you, there may have been instances you wished you were someone else. The hottest guy or girl on campus, the smartest in class, the richest kid on the block, sometimes we think having someone else’s life would make life easier…. but pause!! Do you realize that the people you want to be like also feel this way sometimes?. We all wanna be Superman and Superwoman.
We quit wanting to be someone else when we decide to throw the crappy mirror we use away and get a new one; a good one that can show all the good sides of you. That’s exactly what I did! I stopped looking at my imperfection and looked at what I am great at. The funny thing is I didn’t even know what was good about me because I listened to critics and demeaning comments so much that I forgot about the good side of me. Let me give you facts why you have HATERS;
1. “You are so on fire that wet blankets try to quench you”. It is for sure- you are blazing hot!! As unbelievable as it sounds the bravest and realest of people are the ‘uncool’ and ‘jon’ as high school students would put it because these people do not hide who they are, they don’t pretend to be someone else. They are simply themselves despite the fact that they stand to be bullied and teased. How do you call that? I call that BRAVERY. Being brave and genuine is beautiful so if you got that, you are definitely AWESOME. Guess you already tossing the crappy mirror away at the moment. Your haters see that real and brave side of you so much that they are intimidated- they therefore have to quench the fire by being wet blankets.
2. It is a cover up tactic!! I observed a bully in high school who thought of himself as dumb and unintelligent;probably because he was also using a bad mirror. However, he kept teasing another guy for being dumb and unintelligent. Many times we all feel pointing out others mistakes makes us better people but guess what, although the finger is not pointing at you, You are still YOU.
3. You have something they want! I remember a ‘cool’ girl who had all the fame and popularity in high school who picked up on some other girl for being ‘ugly’. There was however a foil in these two characters, the victim would coil up and feel ugly because she had no idea what she had because of the crappy mirror she was using. She was so SMART and REAL that she had friends that genuinely loved her. The ‘cool’ girl wanted all of that but she could not because she was famous and popular. It is almost impossible to have a tight circle of genuine friends when you are popular in Highschool; atleast you are never too sure. There is no superman nor superwoman who has it all.
Remember to be real because the heart that is meant to love you will love YOU and not the other person you appear to be. The power of Superman and Superwoman is BRAVERY and being REAL……..Oh yeah!…and a good mirror too.
